Access Copyright has been part of my professional life for many years, including previous service on the Board from 2006 to 2012 and again since 2020. This history provides a clear perspective on the organization’s evolution—one marked by both significant challenges and sustained resilience. In my first year as Chair, I have seen this resilience firsthand through ongoing engagement in webinars and information sessions addressing the Canadian copyright landscape, artificial intelligence, and collective licensing. These efforts underscore the importance of collaboration in responding to a changing environment.
Access Copyright is entering a renewed phase, guided by a strategic plan that reinforces its role as a copyrightlicensing organization committed to fair compensation for Canadian creators and publishers. At the same time, it continues to support Canadian businesses and organizations by offering licensing solutions that reduce risk and promote compliance with copyright law.
Significant progress was made in 2025, as outlined in this report, and important work remains ahead. The Board’s role is to maintain a longterm perspective—understanding where the organization has been, where it is heading, and what is required to succeed.
We are confident that Access Copyright is well positioned for the future.
